SPOTLIGHT ON...

Adriana Fontes Lobo
If you don’t know her name now, you should get familiar real quick. This young lady is an up and coming model in the Boston area. With a body that could stop traffic, Adriana could easily be the next model, or super model, that the world has been waiting for. With her mile long legs, and a waist that could make any girl who walks on the runway envious, Adriana not only has the body but the face and personality to match. Her face is not easily forgotten and when she walks into any room she captures the eyes and attention of everyone. Her face could be easily seen on commercials or ads for Cover Girl or Maybelline. There are many models that have the typical body and look, but Adriana’s personality shines through. With her care free attitude and great sense of humor Adriana is someone any photographer or designer would love to work with. She looks amazing in about almost anything and knows how to work the runway.
In my interview with Adriana she opens up about her fashion sense, her beauty secrets and her care free go for it attitude. Adriana makes her own fashion rules and uses inspiration from designers, celebrities, and magazines like InStyle, Vogue, Teen Vogue, W Magazine, Marie Claire, Glamour, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Allure and many more sitting on today’s shelves. She is not a copycat in any means, but like many designers and celebrities, she takes their great ideas and fashion sense and makes it her own. This is my interview with Adriana Fontes Lobo.

CC) When did your fashion sense/style become apparent to you and at what age did you start modeling?
AL) My fashion sense was apparent at the age of 16. I knew that I had a passion for fashion and when I looked through magazines like InStyle, Vogue, Teen Vogue, W Magazine, and so many others I would just get a sense of excitement. I looked at the models and said I could easily do that and so I went for it.
CC) If you had to describe your style what would it be?
AL) My style is Classic Punk. With living in Boston, especially in an urban community and being Cape Verdean, many are always surprised that I am not wearing the “typical” urban fashion that young teens are wearing. I like to stand out and do what makes me happy and wear what makes me comfortable.
CC) If people were to make fun of your style or say that you’re trying to hard what would you say?
AL) I first would ignore them. Why do I have to defend who I am or what my style is to anyone? I am not a rock star in anyway but my look can give people the impression that i am. I like to add a modern edge to my outfits by wearing leather jackets or boots. I also like to accessorize with metal pieces, zippers, gauges, and chains. I’m not afraid to mix punk with feminine pieces like skirts and dresses. I defiantly wear lots and lots of black. Are people going to say I am gothic? They might but who cares, black to me is classic and it has become my go to color.
CC) When it comes to fashion, what quote or saying do you live by?
AL) My favorite fashion quote is Yves Saint Laurent’s quote "Fashion fades, style is eternal."
CC) Who is your favorite fashion icon?
AL) My favorite fashion icon today is Agyness Deyn
CC) When you get up in the morning what is the first thing you think of when you are about to get dressed?
AL) The first thing I think about when I get dressed in the morning is, what’s the weather like today?
CC) What is the worst thing you have ever worn, and when you look back you are like wtf?
AL) Anything with flip flops.
CC) If everyone in the world stopped wearing clothes and birthday suits were the style how would you stand out from the rest?
AL) I would have to say my legs would make me stand out because they are so long.
CC) If you only could take one piece of clothing, or accessory with you on a long trip what would it be?
AL) It would be my combat boots.
CC) Favorite stores to shop at?
AL) My favorite stores to shop at are H&M, Goodwill, and consignment boutiques.
CC) Favorite piece of clothing, shoe, or jewelry?
AL) It would have to be my black leg warmers and my bullet bracelet
CC) What is your least favorite trend this coming spring/summer and your must have item?
AL) A Foxtail keychain
CC) If you could buy something you really wanted what would it be?
AL) I would buy every pair of Dr Martens
CC) You used to have that long hair no care, but now you have that short hair, but i got flare....why the drastic change?
AL) Yes I did have that "long hair don’t care" but I didn’t want to hassle with complicated hairstyles, so  I shaved it off....myself!
CC) How do you keep your skin looking great?
AL) Coco butter products is key for my skin. I never go a day without some.
CC) What is your must have makeup or hair product?
AL) My must have makeup is Mac Eye Shadow Velvet Black Tied and my favorite hair product is Pantene's texture sculpting wax.

CC) What is your must have item when you go out?
AL) I have to have chapstick. You can’t have dry chapped lips.

CC) In order to live a long and healthy fashionable life what do you do to stay in shape?
AL) This is really bad to say but I only do crunches because I love to show off my abs and I am naturally thin.
CC) Many guys must think you are beautiful, what grabs your attention?
AL) The first thing that grabs my attention is a guys’ style.
CC) What would be your dream job if you couldn’t model or act?
AL) It would have to be a zoo keeper because I love animals
CC) What’s your favorite song on your iPod at the moment?
AL) Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”. That song is amazing and her message I believe is so true. God makes us all in his special way.

Check out this gorgeous young lady that will be ripping runways and standing out in ads very soon.

STYLE

"Building Your Wardrobe"

Ok I know most of us have a closet full of clothes that either 1) is overflowing and hard to manage 2) have clothes that have not been worn for over a year 3) are the same item different color. Well here is your time to get up and get rid of all that extra junk. Having tons of clothes is great because you might never what to wear the same thing twice, but in reality we all have our essential items we wear at least one or twice a week or we  pack when we go on trips.

So let’s make space for these items that in the end will be our "go to" item. All the items that are to follow are essential to any woman's closet. They allow for so many versatile looks, and I will tell you right here at Casuna's Connection, how to take 6 essential items and make them into 20 different looks, but honestly you can use these items and probably make 100s. Ok that’s a little exaggerated but you know what I mean.

Let’s get your “key pieces” together. Like Lauren Conrad said in her book “Style”, “key pieces are the foundation around which you’ll build your wardrobe”. My key pieces are the items that I cannot see myself without when I travel from home. I love to have that show stopper piece, but I also have to have my comfortable, flattering, and timeless pieces. So I went through my closet, drawers, and bins and picked my 6 favorite, must have things, and let me just say I was amazed at how many outfits I was able to create by just adding an item here or there. Just remember it takes time to create a perfect wardrobe, and no one’s is perfect because style is always evolving. So let’s peek into my closet…

Key Pieces

Little Black Dress

Thank you Coco Channel for the little black dress. The little black dress has been around for almost a century, but oh how it has evolved. I just bought this from American Apparel. I have about 4 black dresses and they are all so different, but I love this one because it has no lines and a clean cut with a nice silhouette, but warning it is a tight dress that will show off every inch of the body so you either need to go commando or you can wear some thin boyshorts.  Try wearing a fitted blazer, cardigan, pumps, flats, ankle booties, long necklace, fedora, wide or thin belt. The list could go on and on so have fun with it.

Jeans

The American Staple! On May 20, 1873 Blue Jeans were born. The story is quite interesting but also the many options you could wear with them are as well. Jeans come in all colors, styles, and flares. I personally like my charlotte Russe skinny jeans that are pictured. I do in fact wear mine with pumps or boots, either knee or ankle, but you can also wear with flats,  flip flops, or wedges. Black and deep blue’s are super flattering to the body then light or white washes. Also they look a lot fancier especially with a button down shirt or a shirt with some embellishments.

Collared Button-Down

This item is a must have by far because you can wear it with your jeans or even with a skirt or leggings. If you add a blazer or a fedora or even just some nice necklaces you can have 5 different outfits. The white button down can be paired with a belt as well to add more shape to your body. The white button down is also referred to as the “morning after shirt" especially if it’s a little bigger, cause occasionally men wear white button down shirts, so you can imagine why its called that. I sometimes wear mine around the house when I have my boyshorts on because it is very sexy. When the weather gets warmer, that’s if you live in New England area since its freezing, wear a bikini under it while it’s unbuttoned and you have a cute cover up. Then if you need to go somewhere throw on jeans. Mine is from Macy's but honestly go into your husband's, boyfriends, guy friend's closet and borrow theirs.

Black Pumps

If you know me, you know I LOVE shoes and I have a real obsession. My black pumps are one of my must have because I can wear them with everything and anything. I am 5'8" and love 4 plus inch heels, because my legs are really long and they just make them go on and on. If you wear a neutral color shoe as well that will also make your legs look even longer especially if they are a high heel. I love my pair from Charlotte Russe not only for the price but also for the comfort. These almond toe shoes have a hidden platform which makes it easier for you to walk and you can wear them all night. I have this style in 7 different colors. They are in green, snake, purple, brown, white, gray, and black. Also if your shoes ever get messed up by scuffs...I have some fun ways to fix them...but be on the watch for that part of the style section in my blog.

White and Black T-Shirt

You can wear your white or black T shirt with ANYTHING. You can spice it up with a skirt and necklaces. You can wear it with your jeans or leggings. White or black shirts look great with blazers. Remember with a simple shirt you can make the rest of your outfit more colorful or even more extravagant. This is like the glue to an outfit so have fun with the rest.

Blazer

A blazer is key to a lot of these looks. I have about 7 and each is a different color and also a different style, but I have my "go to" black one that I pair with pretty much anything in my closet. I love mine that I bought it at Target. It has a great cut and a great stretch. I don't recommend wearing your man's because men's blazers are cut for men's body but women blazers are meant for curves. You can buy blazers anywhere now and honestly Thrift stores have the best styles and colors and a vintage blazer makes the outfit even better especially if you pair it with a classic traditional top or bottom.

These are just my top 6 "go to" items. I also think a woman should have a good bra and underwear especially for jeans and dresses. Also a pair of boots, either high heel, or ridding boot is important. Maxi dresses as well are just fun and easy going. Sweaters are also a clutch item because they keep you warm and looking so cute. Some followers said....

Jazmin Nichole
Hmm must have: great fitting dark wash jeans, preferably boot cut so you can dress them down or up. All else fails: a jersey material dress.
You can wear leggings and cardigans when its cold and when its hot by itself with nice sandals or wedges

Daniel Lopes All men need to have at least one pair of Timbs.

Icewater Froze One of those hanging deodorizer is a must even before I put anything in there lol lmao just saying

EXCLUSIVE

SPOLIGHT ON...

D. LOPES

I had the greatest opportunity recently to interview one of the most influential rappers/entertainers in the music industry. He has been hitting us with his lyrical rhymes, influential flows, and bass hitting get on your feet beats since the begging of his career. His first album, “Bright Darkness”, that he co produced with long time friend and business partner J. Beats (The Beatmaker), was a huge success, and soon the duo started on their second project “Concrete Intelligence”. Both these albums had huge success, with hits, C.A.B.O., My People, She Shakes It, and Never Gonna Leave, to name a few. With his Award for Best Original Hip Hop Performance on B.E.T.’S 106 and Park, D. Lopes has set the bar very high for newcomers who want to break into this industry. D. Lopes has been a celebrated figure in the Cape Verdean community, especially the New England Area, not only when it comes to his music, but also for his fashion.

D. Lopes (Daniel Lopes), a first generation Cape Verdean in America, was born in Boston Massachusetts. He later moved to Brockton and at the young age of three, started his musical career singing in an Elementary school chorus. As a former DJ, D. Lopes is conscious about what people want to hear. He says, "People don’t want to hear profanity-driven music with no conscious message or experience to back it up". He strives to make music people want to hear by consistently writing relevant lyrics and making intelligent music, which is needed in this frequently every changing, jewelry, fur flaunting, no message bubble gum Hip Hop. Bubble gum Hip Hop, you ask? A type of music that is 85% Pop, 14% R&B, and 1% Hip Hop, music made famous by suburbian teenyboppers. Where is real Hip Hop? Real hip hop is D. Lopes.

Hip Hop by definition is a “musical genre that developed as part of hip hop culture, and is defined by four key stylistic elements: rapping, DJing/scratching, sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing.” D. Lopes not only has all those key elements but he has submerged himself in the entire subculture of Hip Hop, and you can see that through his Fashion. Like Hip Hop, Fashion has changed dramatically over the years, especially Hip Hop fashion. You won’t see many people wearing brightly colored name-brand tracksuits, sheepskin leather bomber jackets, and Clark shoes that we all knew growing up. With the era of ever changing throwback jersey, air force ones, shell toe addidas sneakers we have come into the era where many hip hop artists and executives started their own fashion labels and clothing lines. With lines by artists like P.Diddy (Sean John), TI (AKOO), Nelly (Apple Bottom Jeans), Damon Dash and Jay-Z (Rocawear), 50 Cent (G-Unit Clothing), Eminem (Shady Limited), D. Lopes is right there with his own line from Street Smart Entertainment. He later in the interview describes what his fashion is all about, but let me just note he won’t be wearing Skinny Low jeans that rappers like Lil Waye and New Boyz’s made popular. Like Jay-Z said “don't wear skinny jeans cause my knots won't fit”. With websites like RateMyFresh.Com http://www.ratemyfresh.com/, which does a great job showcasing the new fashion styles and trends in the Hip Hop Society, D Lopes would get top ratings.

 D. Lopes music and fashion is all about that solid, hard-hitting high-spirited, unflappable, laidback old school feel, sprinkled with African, funk, Neo-Soul, Reggae, Rock and Roll, and Capeverdean rhymes and influences. D. Lopes take the listeners and followers into an appealing world where anything is possible. Striving to be more than just a rapper, D. Lopes with the help of, J. Beats, Ary Santos, Lisa R Photo, Frenchy, Dj Backspin and Dj MastaMyne established Street Smart Entertainment, a multifaceted company that brings together talents in the areas of fashion, modeling, dancing, photography and most importantly Music.

D. Lopes is a forever growing and forever changing individual, which can be seen through his music, fashion and growing company. For all the Casuna’s Connection followers this was my one on one interview with, the CEO, Rapper, Artist, Dj, and well let me just say this amazing man named Daniel Lopes aka D. Lopes.

CC) Tell me a little about yourself?

DL) My Name is Daniel Lopes, but everyone knows me as D. Lopes. Music has been in my blood since I could remember. I was in chorus from the 4th grade until I graduated. I began Djing at the age of 14 and began Rapping at the age of 16. I was Born in Boston MA, but moved to Brockton at the age of 3. I have three siblings, which mean the world to me and I take pride in being Cape Verdean and it is evident in everything that I do.

CC) What is your inspiration when it comes to music and fashion?

DL) Musically I want to make classics, music that stands the test of time. I think Fashion is very similar. I love to stay trendy, but I always look at an article of clothing and say, “If I take a picture will I see that picture five or ten years from now and say, What the Hell was I Wearing!!!!

CC) Do you have any idols or people you look up to in your life?

DL) I look up to my team for putting up with me. I keep them busy.

CC) You have been in the music game since the 4th grade, where do you see yourself 5 to 10 years from now?

DL) Being in the music game since the 4th grade, I was a very shy kid growing up, so I would never sing solo’s or took command of the crowd. I feel in 5 to 10 years I will be doing what I still love which is performing and commanding crowds. Also plan to develop young talent to be ready for this game.

CC) If you had to describe your music and fashion in one word what would it be and why?

DL) Matching. I wear clothing that matches me, and my music is the offspring of me.

CC) What distinguishes you from others rappers in the industry, such as Elji, Pitpull, Assassino, Lil Wayne and etc? What makes your music worth listening to?

DL) I just think I have tuned up my skills greatly and I can deliver songs that can become the soundtrack to your day. Assassino spits in Kriolo, Elji in French, Wayne is on drugs, and Pitbull is killing the Latin Miami scene. Those are some differences. Elji and Assassino are my boys and good dudes. I already got Assassino on CABO, hopefully we get Elji on it too

CC) Your raps are lyrically genius how do you come up with your flow?

DL) I am still learning. Different songs get written certain ways. Some songs don’t get written down; some take me weeks to write. The flow is something I have been working on, it is a developmental thing. It’s getting better day by day.

CC) I know your new cd Rage is being worked on, when do we expect it to drop and who can we expect to see on the album?

DL) Rage has spawned off into two albums. When I started recording Rage, it was a heavily Rock influenced, real life, Hip hop album. So I got up with Assassino for what was supposed to be one kriolo track. Then I got up with Nelson (Nelson Freitas) and Nilton (Nilton Ramalho), who have been my boys for years, while they were out here for shows. So now I had 3 zouk tracks for a Hip Hop album, my team and I decided that wouldn’t work. So now I am releasing two albums this year. Rage! Which I will release under my company Street Smart Entertainment, and C.A.B.O which will be Co-Produced by Street Smart Entertainment and Lo Records. The albums are still in the works and like any piece of art it takes time to make a masterpiece, both are very near completion.

CC) You have worked with many people who has been your favorite?

DL) They all have an interesting story. They all create my body of work, so I’ll say the package of working with so many talented artists. Some underground type people, some very popular, the whole collective experience has been crazy. I get to keep making music with musicians and people still listen, God is good.

CC) If you could work with any artist who would it be and why?

DL) I would say Nas, he is my favorite. But I know I would win a Grammy for a D. Lopes feat Sade over a J. Beat.

CC) Some of your greatest songs have been “Bring It to Me” Ft. Nelson Freitas and Another Level ft Nilton Ramalho, so what great songs can we expect to see in the future and what are some of your favorite?

DL) I think my Hip Hop album has so many. The video for Criminal is out and is a song that every musician that hears it, gives me so much respect for and has been one of my favorites. I am so proud to do something different. That song is me. The future of my music is unknown, but I will say look out for the “Ninguem”, just released as well, plus the songs on Nilton Ramalho, G-Amado, Sterlin and a new group of CV rappers called the Alliance.

CC) You just got the opportunity to work with Marcia on the song "Ninguem", which features J. Beats, how was it working with Marcia?

DL) Working with Marcia was great. She is a very kind, talented young lady. We got along well, and it shows in the music. Sidenote, J. Beats is never a feature. LOL The songs and album go by D. Lopes and J. Beats. There is no D. Lopes with out that genius.

CC) Your video for the song “Don't Keep Me Waiting”, which is my favorite song, was never finished. Do you think you will ever finish it?

DL) The story behind that is hilarious. A lot of my early income from music went into the production of that video. To never receive a completed copy was a crippling blow on an early business man. There is a remix on the “CABO” album of that song. That song is probably my biggest song on the low. It has played all over the globe. Proud of that one.

CC) Not only are your songs epic, but your poetry is fantastic as well. The one on Amilcar Cabral was inspirational. What inspired you to write it?

DL) That is the first verse on this song I wrote. I wrote it because I was fed up that day with Cape Verdeans killing Cape Verdeans. I had just lost a friend out of Boston then I lost a friend out of Brockton. So I painted to the youth that Amilcar was assassinated because of what he did for our parents. So after all that he did, for us to be killing each other, he must be turning in his grave.

CC) Do you have any type of stage rituals you need to do before you perform?

DL) I just need to be in my zone, so I kind of hate when people talk to me before I go up. A boxer needs to come into the ring already in his zone. Besides that, I don’t need much.

CC) What advice would you give those that are trying to make it big in the music industry?

DL) Talent isn’t enough. It’s the music business; you need to be good at music and business.

CC) If you were given a chance to do anything you want or have whatever you wanted what would it be?

DL) I want to win a Grammy. To be recognized by the industry. Plus I want to buy J. Beats a BMW… We have and on going beef over cars, he’s a Mercedes man, I’m a Beemer boy!

CC) What are the artists and songs on your Ipod or computer right now?

DL) I like J. Cole, Nas & Damien, Kanye, TI, Nelson, but I mostly listen to music I am working on. Like Sterling in the US, G-Amado out of Portugal, Nilton out of Holland, Kriola Studio out of Luxembourg and my own music.

CC) If someone told you that you no longer could rap or perform what would you do or how would you feel?

DL) I would do it anyways. I have never been signed, so who can tell me not to make music. But the question is for how long will they listen. I love music so even if I make songs just to ride and bump to, I will be happy.

CC) Now you always look good in what you are wearing. Your style is very refreshing. Is there anything you would never be caught wearing?

DL) The Tom Brady’s...The men’s Uggz. Never! Actually, those things utterly disgust me for women too. Like a chic can be so dope, but if she got Uggz on, I lose attraction she becomes average.

CC) What stores are you shopping at and what brands or designers are you wearing?

DL) I’m all over the place now, I have someone shopping for me and keeping me fresh. Sometimes I got to veto things, but rarely. She got me looking the part.

CC) Casuna’s Connection also talks about health and how to live a healthy life. What are your daily workout or exercise regimens?

DL) I am in the gym quite routinely now. I lift and I do a lot of Circuit training. But Basketball is what really keeps me good. Great cardio helps my breathing on stage. I am learning to eat a lot better too. I am down a lot of weight.

CC) Just for those curious readers, what is the first thing you do in the morning when you get up?

DL) Brush my teeth. You got to have good hygiene.

CC) Now you must know you have many female fans that adore you, and many want to know what your type is, and are you in fact single?

DL) Music is my girlfriend and she is my type.

GUY TALK

This section of my blog called "Guy Talk" is dedicated to men so they can get what they want off their chest about a topic. Some want to be anonymous, but others don't care and want you to know! Women get to vent and express themselves, so why not the men. The topic of this week is "What do you hate that women are wearing right now, and what should they get rid of for next year"? Many guys responded and I got some of these for answers...so ladies if you don't care what guys are thinking then laugh it off and keep rocking what you like.

SO.................................................WEARING

Anthony BabyPowder Elbert- The damn lace hair thingy fuckers. Andddddddddd those dresses that make women look prego. And I'd rather not be anonymous. Also DO NOT WEAR a one piece to the beach. I'd die.

Anoymous- FLATS!!! Like God gave you sexy legs....wear those heels ladies unless you like 6' or taller...Shit dude is 6'2" I don't need a woman taller than me.

Steve-o Waver Uggz, and northface can't be worn next winter !

LeSwizz Mustapher uggs for crying out loud and anything that looks like it ofcoarse the badly done weaves and wiggs. looks like horse hair. Also no toes are supposed to be hanging out the sandals, if you got rolls, cover them up, that is not pretty in a swim suit.

Anoymous- women wearing sneakers, unless they are going to the gym

Anoymous- RED LIPSTICK!!! Its not sexy...you look like a clown.

Joey Pires U guys r fcked up. Wat about girls. Yall wear leggins everyday (even tho I like it lol) but I swear yall wear da same ones everyday and I bet da same underwear or thongs. And leggins aint for every girl . If ur butts flat, don't expect it to make it look big . Sorry I had to say it.

Aracelis Rodriguez Oh boy, I could go on forever about this! I think it's ridiculous when women can't tell the difference between spandex pants and oblique footless stockings because I really don't need to see their underwear or lack there of. Same goes wit...h cheap, thin spandex pants. If you can see your underwear then wear a long top that will cover below the butt. Just yesterday in school I saw a girl wearing thin white spandex pants with a short top n to top it off she wasn't wearing underwear; I really didn't need to find out her preference of not shaving down there. I was sitting down n she was standing up talking to someone next to me, not where I wanted to be at that moment. =-

Icewater Froze WEAVE!!!! lol. if you have gone a whole year with it and your hair has not grown yet or has grown about an inch in a year!!!! give it up. by the time you reach the length you want you would be in your mid 40's and by then alot of things have changed ..lol. sorry just being real.if your hair is short then find a short style that fits and rock it..just sayin!!!

A woman had to stop by and say...

Domenique Centeio-Pires Men wearing Plaid shirts!!!!.Whenever I look at club pics esp on tantrics site I think it's a plaid fest lol!!! Lol at Joey but that's so true if ya don't have an ass don't wear leggings and if u stay wearing black ones 5 times in one week u might as well be wearing the same one!!! Aracelis I agree.

Anastasia Fernandez men that wear uggs

Larissa Andrade I dislike when men wear pink / limegreen chucks & I hate when girls wear clothes that's not their size. Nobody wants to see their rolls.
